The importance of feeding the garden

4 reasons why our lawns need fertilizer

Close up inspections

A meadow looks lovely from a distance, but get closer and you’ll see that it’s full of bare patches, weeds and scars. Fertilizer helps your lawn look good close up.

Regeneration

Mowing subjects grass to great stress and removes some of its ability to turn sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into food.

Bred for performance

Today’s lawn is bred to perform as well as look good, and they require specific foods to give them the competitive edge that we expect.

Water retention

Fertilized grass will develop a dense turf area with lots of roots, and this structure helps to hold water around the base of the plants, enabling the soil to absorb more of it.

Why our range is best for the professional landscaper

The Scotts Landscaper Pro range uses controlled release mineral fertilizers to provide long-term, healthy and sustainable growth to your lawn.

  • High in available nutrients
  • Very reliable nutrient release over a longer period
  • Long lasting and safe to plants
  • Fantastic value as nitrogen is delivered over a longer period
  • Keeps plant in balance with top growth matched by thick root mass

Pure natural organics, Mineral Organics & Agricultural mineral fertilizers

These fertilizers release nutrients rapidly and unpredictably, therefore causing surge growth, followed by nutrient deficiency. Surge release of nutrients will lead to top growth making hard work mowing and clippings. The root system will also shrink due to an excess of available nutrients immediately after application.

Landscaper Pro controlled release nutrients

Nutrients are released gradually over time which means no growth peaks and no sudden drop-off of nutrient availability. This is gradual nutrient delivery promotes a stronger turf plant with hard top growth that is more tolerant to wear and tear. Gradual feeding of nutrients also encourages the turf plant to develop a stronger, deeper root system that’s more efficient at taking up water and more resistant to drought conditions.

Aqua Smart - Advanced Water Control

Our approach to water control

Landscaper Pro fertilizers are used in our exclusive Aquasmart programmes. The Aquasmart approach promotes dense top growth and deep, healthy roots, enabling the plant to use the available soil water more effectively.

Aquasmart works by delivering nutrients slowly, so that the plant is never starved of food. Lawns fed with Aquasmart programs develop thicker, denser turf canopies above ground, and longer, deeper roots below ground. This means that use of water is optimized in two ways - the thick canopy prevents run-off and gives the soil more time to absorb the moisture, and the deeper roots can access more groundwater. The result? A healthy growing lawn which remains green and vibrant for longer.

Why other fertilizer types don’t match up to Landscaper Pro

There are a number of different types of fertilizer on the market, and sometimes the choice can be confusing. Here’s our rundown of how other common fertilizers fail to match up to the Landscaper Pro range’s unique attributes.

Pure natural organic fertilizers

  • Low in available nutrients, especially nitrogen
  • Unreliable nutrient release rate
  • Expensive considering low nutrient content

Mineral organic fertilizers

  • Unreliable nutrient release due to organic element
  • Potential damage from minerals if wrongly applied
  • Fast release of minerals promotes top growth but not root length

Agricultural mineral fertilizers

  • Fast release that promotes top growth over root development
  • Short effect, with no lasting nutrient delivery
  • Harsh on plants, potentially damaging if wrongly applied
